Our History
Whilst first opening its doors in 1984, the pioneering story of Harrison Agents stems further back to 1842 when current director Tom Harrison’s great, great, great grandfather C J Weedon opened his auctioneering and general merchant business in Launceston, Tasmania.
This business expanded into stockbroking and was even listed on the Australian Stock Exchange for a period. In 1984, Tom’s father Robert M Harrison left the business and began Harrison Humphreys with co-director Gordon Humphreys. The business operated under this banner until Tom Harrison became sole owner in 2020 and was subsequently rebranded Harrison Agents. The business now covers the North and South of the state with an office in central Launceston and another in Salamanca Square, Battery Point.
Harrison Agents has grown to become the leading property business in our region, competing successfully with national and international franchises while remaining distinctly Tasmanian in outlook. In 2026, the business launched Harrison Stays, bringing that same standing to short-stay and holiday management across the state.
Tasmania has a character that people recognise immediately. An independent spirit underpins a culture of originality and enduring quality, without chasing trends or attention.
The properties we represent are part of a broader responsibility to showcase Tasmania to the world. Every campaign, every photograph and every piece of creative work contributes to how this island is understood beyond its shores.
Six generations of the Harrison family have lived and worked in Tasmania. The world is now watching Tasmanian property. We market it in a way that shows this island at its best.
